77 Taliban fighters killed in 24 hours |
Seventy-seven Taliban fighters have been killed in a 24-hour operation by Afghan forces. The group has three heads of military commissions. A spokesman for Afghanistan's deputy defense minister claimed on Tuesday that armed Taliban members had been killed during fighting with Afghan security forces in Helmand province.
Afghan commandos have been battling the Taliban for the past few days to take control of Helmand province. Seventy-seven Taliban members were killed in different parts of Helmand province. Defense Ministry spokesman Fawad Aman made such a demand.
The killing of so many Taliban fighters is good news for the country's government. Fawad said six people, including three heads of the Taliban's military commission, had been killed in 24 hours in air and ground operations on the outskirts of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province. Military operations will continue in Helmand province to stop their dangerous advance. Earlier, the country's defense ministry said 40 Taliban fighters had been killed.
So far, 223 districts across the country are under the control of Taliban members, according to US media outlet CNN. And 117 district competitions are going on. It is occupied by the district government.
