Gaza Aid Still Critically Scarce as Ceasefire Holds, UN Warns

By Ababil Islamic News — October 2025

Gaza City — Despite a week-long ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains desperate. According to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), around 560 tonnes of food enter Gaza daily, yet northern areas remain largely unreachable. The fragile truce has failed to translate into meaningful relief for millions of Palestinians still trapped without food, clean water, or medical care.

🚫 Rafah Crossing Remains Restricted

The Rafah border crossing — Gaza’s main link to Egypt and the outside world — remains under tight restrictions. Aid convoys wait for hours under the scorching sun for clearance. Damaged infrastructure and fuel shortages are preventing food and medicine from reaching northern Gaza, where starvation is worsening every day.

Humanitarian organizations have warned that unless the Rafah crossing is reopened fully, Gaza could face “total collapse.” Hospitals report that thousands of patients are at risk due to a lack of fuel for generators and clean water for treatment.

🩺 Health System Near Breakdown

The World Health Organization (WHO) says disease outbreaks are spreading rapidly in overcrowded shelters. Only 13 of Gaza’s 36 hospitals are partially functional. Medical staff are struggling with limited supplies and an increasing number of malnourished children.

Local doctors have reported cases of diarrhoea, meningitis, and respiratory infections — all worsened by a lack of clean water and sanitation. “We are treating patients in darkness with almost no medicine left,” one doctor said. “This ceasefire means little if people continue to die slowly.”

🕌 Global Muslim Response

Across the Muslim world, solidarity movements and charities are mobilizing to support Gaza. Turkey, Malaysia, and Indonesia have called for a permanent humanitarian corridor. Islamic Relief and Qatar Red Crescent have appealed for immediate international action to ensure unrestricted aid access.

In Kuala Lumpur, thousands of Muslims gathered in front of the Malaysian Parliament to demand an end to the blockade. Similar rallies were held in Istanbul and London under the slogan #PrayForGaza.

🌍 UN and International Agencies Demand Access

The UN has urged Israel to allow uninterrupted aid delivery. “A ceasefire without full access for humanitarian support is not peace — it’s a pause in suffering,” said Juliette Touma, UNRWA spokesperson. The agency also warned that fuel for hospitals and bakeries would run out within days if the blockade continues.

📊 What Lies Ahead

  • Will the Rafah crossing be reopened completely for aid trucks?
  • Can humanitarian agencies prevent disease outbreaks in refugee shelters?
  • Will Muslim nations push for a sustainable peace deal for Gaza?
  • Will the ceasefire hold as tensions remain high?

🔚 Conclusion

The guns may be silent, but Gaza’s agony continues. Food scarcity, disease, and despair threaten to undo the fragile calm achieved through the ceasefire. The world — and especially the Muslim Ummah — now faces a moral test: will this pause be used to rebuild lives, or will Gaza be left to suffer in silence once again?
